If you’ve been following my Project 365, you know that I have been running more. If you read my Vday post, you also know my gift to Ryan was that I would run a half marathon with him.
If you know me, you know I don’t run. I took up climbing a year or so ago, but other than that, I haven’t done much in the way of “active”. So, this gift is kind of a big deal for me. More so, for Ryan because he has wanted to me to be more active and get more healthy for years. People assume that because I am skinny, I am healthy.
So. Not. True. I have the cardiovascular system of a 80 year old life long smoker.
Well, for Christmas, I got new running shoes.
Which means, I gotta start running. Then, when my Vday gift to Ryan became a half marathon. I had to really start running.
SO I ran a little over 3 miles. And it felt good! Was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I decided to take a photo, to commemorate the moment. Then, I thought, perhaps this is the best way to document this adventure of training for a half marathon.
So, I am going to take a picture of myself after every run on which I run farther than I have ever run before.
But, like I said, 3 miles hurt!
So, the next time I ran, I ran 3.5 miles…
And it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. Which meant, I needed to run a little farther.
So, I ran four miles with my friend Sam! We ran at Rock Creek Park. I didn’t have any pockets for my car key, so Sam said she would carry it in her pocket. I took my house key off my key ring, handed it to her and as I was locking and closing the car door, Sam asks, “Wait, don’t we need your car key and not your house key…”
Ooops. Well, we decided to run and then figure out what to do, and I am so glad we did, otherwise we probably wouldn’t have run that far! When we got back to the car, we couldn’t find the hide-a-key, but luckily Steph was home and could come save us. THANK YOU STEPHIE!
Two days later, I was chatting with Merrill and told her I was going for a run and she said Good Luck on your 5 miler! and I said, uh…my 3 miler. She said, oh…ok then!
Well, as I was running my 3 miler, I got all competitive with myself. Not sure why. But, it worked.
5.13 miler!!! I decided to get competitive with myself on a hot, humid day at noon, the hottest part of the day. I WOULD decide to get competitive with myself on the hottest day we have had yet this year. It hurt! But, as all my healthy, active friends say, “a good kind of hurt”…not sure if I am there yet, but hoping I get there since I eventually have to run 13.1 miles…!
So, keep posted! As I run farther and farther, I will keep posting these terrible photos of me, hopefully accompanied by some entertaining anecdotes.
